Despite the fact that there have been plenty of other significant events taking place throughout the world during the last couple of weeks, it seems like the news media wants to focus all of their attention on the H1N1 flu virus. Once people started to realize that swine flu was killing people throughout Mexico, they started to get much more worried about the potential implications of this virus spreading. However, while there is no denying that the swine flu virus is still spreading around the globe, the number of deaths has been significantly less than in Mexico. The reason that I am bringing up this fact is that while I could understand widespread worry if this flu virus was killing a significant amount of people, I don’t understand the ongoing worries at this point. As a result of their continued but misguided worries, people are changing their plans and certain countries are imposing all kinds of regulations.
Regardless of the fact that the swine flu worries continue, I am not going to let them interfere with my summer travel plans. Because I have taken a trip during the last couple of summers, I already have plans to spend a week and a half in Fulham with one of my good friends. Since I have already taken care of booking my hotel room, Fulham car rental and flight, it would take something much more serious than this current swine flu issue for me to cancel my whole trip. Luckily, my trip isn’t for at least another month, so I have my fingers crossed that people will stop worrying about the H1N1 virus and start worrying about the next thing they see on their television sets!
